Moving across continents and cultures
Ivette here, checking in from the green, misty magic of Northern Spain. For those of you who know me, you know my heart belongs to a few different places: the vibrant energy of Tecate, Mexico, the sun-drenched pace of San Diego, California, and now, this quiet, natural paradise I call home.
Moving across continents and cultures has been an adventure, not just for my partners and me, but for my body and mind. And I want to share a simple, profound realization with you that has changed everything about how I approach nutrition, health, and just being a woman in the world.
The Myth of “Busy” and the Gift of Slowing Down
Dialing back the noise
For years, I believed that success and health meant pushing harder, moving faster, and checking every box on a never-ending to-do list. Especially living near the California bustle, the mantra was always: “You must be busy!”
But lately, something shifted. I’ve been intentionally dialing back the noise—that constant stream of digital distraction, the need to consume and create 24/7. Don’t worry, I still cherish my weekend shows and Spotify playlists with my partners! It’s about creating space in between those moments.
Ease, openness, and wonder
The result? I feel calmer, more focused, and truly present. I’m forming deeper, genuine connections, and my creativity when learning or creating feels effortless, flowing with a renewed sense of ease, openness, and wonder.
The unexpected truth? This feeling of wellness is the most powerful nutritional upgrade I’ve ever made.
What Does “Nourishing” Really Mean for a Woman?
As a nutritionist, I can tell you about complex carbs, protein ratios, and the power of omega-3s. But here’s the most fundamental truth about women’s health: we thrive on rhythm, connection, and real, unprocessed ingredients—both in our food and in our lives.
1. The Real Superfood: Presence
My biggest shift has been realizing that how you eat is just as important as what you eat.
Try this: Next time you have a meal, even if it’s just a quick snack, put your phone down. Really look at the colors on your plate. Smell the aroma. Chew slowly. When you are present, your body can fully signal satiety, digest food better, and turn that simple act into an anchoring moment of peace.
2. Rooting Down: The Power of Whole Foods
From the earthy beans and corn of Tecate to the vibrant farm-fresh produce of the San Diego farmers’ markets, and now the glorious, simple ingredients of the Spanish mercado—whole foods are the constant.
Women’s hormonal health, energy levels, and mood are deeply tied to fiber, healthy fats, and micronutrients.
Focus on: Colorful vegetables (the more colors, the better!), healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, nuts), and lean proteins. It doesn’t have to be fancy. A simple Spanish lentil stew or a California-style avocado toast made with love is a nutritional powerhouse.
3. Hydration: The River of Life
This sounds basic, but many of us walk around mildly dehydrated. Water is critical for energy, digestion, clear skin, and even mood regulation.
Ivette’s Simple Tip: Keep a beautiful water bottle with you. In Spain, I’ve learned to appreciate agua con gas (sparkling water) with a slice of local lemon. Make hydration an enjoyable ritual, not a chore.
Your Invitation to Wonder
My life in Spain has taught me to look up. To notice the clouds, the texture of the old stone walls, and the slow, steady rhythm of nature. This sense of wonder isn’t a distraction; it’s a vital nutrient.
When we create space for wonder, we step out of the stress-response cycle. Our cortisol levels drop, our parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system activates, and suddenly, our bodies are in a better state to utilize all the beautiful nutrition we are feeding ourselves.
Your health journey isn’t about perfection; it’s about connection. Connection to yourself, connection to the moment, and connection to the beautiful food that sustains you.
Let’s take a deep breath together. You are exactly where you need to be.
With love and nourishment,
Ivette Navarro Nutritionist from Tecate, Mexico & San Diego, California.
