The Earth’s Heartbeat: Lessons from the Elder Brother in a World of Chaos

3 minute read

In our modern world, we’re constantly bombarded with news of financial shifts, geopolitical power plays, and the relentless pursuit of “assets.” We hear whispers of a “new world order,” where unseen forces—often called oligarchs—seem to stir chaos and fear, all at our expense. Others talk about gold, about markets, about who will control the next empire.

But what if we’re asking the wrong questions? What if the most vital guidance comes not from the boardrooms and financial districts, but from the ancient whispers of those who have truly listened to our planet for millennia?

This is the profound wisdom I recently encountered, the teachings of the Kogi, the “Elder Brother” of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia. And as a nutritionist focused on wellness, their perspective has shaken me to my core, offering a guiding light in these uncertain times.

Gold, Silver, and the Mother's Organs: A Profound Reckoning

For the Kogi, the very foundation of our modern economic security—gold, silver, and other precious minerals—are not “assets” at all. They are the organs, the blood, the vital stabilizing forces of Mother Earth.

Imagine your own body. What if someone started to remove your liver, your kidneys, or parts of your heart, melting them down into shiny, useless trinkets? You would not feel “wealthy.” You would be dying.

This is how the Kogi see our relentless mining. They believe that when we rip these precious elements from the Earth, we are breaking the invisible “black threads” that connect sacred sites, disrupting the very equilibrium that keeps our rivers flowing, our mountains stable, and our atmosphere balanced. The chaos we see in the world, they say, is a direct consequence of this plunder.

The oligarchs who hoard these metals as a hedge against a collapsing system are, in the Kogi’s view, simply accumulating stolen organs. What good is a mountain of gold if the Earth can no longer sustain life around it?

An Inheritance of Life, Not Metal: The Future of Our Children

As a woman contemplating motherhood, the Kogi’s message about our children’s future struck me with particular force. We often worry about leaving our children a secure financial future, perhaps even contemplating investing in these very metals. But the Elder Brother asks:

“What is the value of a bar of gold to a child who has no clean water to drink?”

They guide us to understand that the true inheritance we can leave our children is not a financial portfolio, but a living, breathing world. If we continue to teach them that their safety comes from extraction, we are training them to participate in the planet’s ongoing “suicide.”

The Kogi urge us to shift our focus from “dead metal” to “living systems.” Instead of obsessing over market fluctuations, we should be investing our energy, our time, and our resources into restoring the Earth’s “veins”—its waterways—and “its skin”—its forests.

Beyond Industrial Quality: Nourishing the Spirit of the Land

As a nutritionist, researcher, and Food Quality Control specialist, my work has always been about standards, safety, and nutritional integrity. But the Kogi broaden this definition immensely. They would ask:

“How can food truly nourish us if it comes from land that has been poisoned or stripped bare by the ‘Younger Brother’s’ relentless hunger for profit?”

They teach that “nutrition” isn’t just about chemicals; it’s about the energy and spirit of the land. If the land is sick, the food, no matter how “perfect” by our industrial standards, cannot truly nourish the human spirit. Our QC must extend to the very source, demanding a spiritual and ecological integrity from our food systems.

A Call to Action: Reclaiming Our Power

The Kogi’s message is not one of despair, but of profound urgency and empowerment. They are urging us to stop being “Little Brothers” playing with fire and to become “Elder Brothers” ourselves, taking responsibility for the health of our shared home.

The oligarchs thrive on fear and division, pushing us towards more extraction, more accumulation. But our true power, as the Kogi illuminate, lies in connection—connection to the Earth, to our communities, and to our own innate wisdom.

So, what will you choose? Will you continue to chase the shiny trinkets of a dying system, or will you listen to the Earth's heartbeat and invest in the vibrant life that truly sustains us all?

You are never alone in this path. Here are some wonderful resources and guidance to begin this journey of healing as a human species:
